In 1972, the first competition was conceived by Glasgow Rangers who were then winners of the European Cup 2. They then wanted to play against Euopa Cup 1 winners, namely Ajax, in honour of Rangers’ 100th anniversary. UEFA adopted this idea, and then the European Super Cup was born.

In addition to the Super Cup trophy, UEFA Super Cup winners will also receive a cash prize of €3.5 million.

The two teams competing in the UEFA Super Cup are the winners of the UEFA Champions League, and the winners of the UEFA Europa League.

Juventus currently have a record of 36 titles. This could have been 38, only the club was stripped of the titles in 2005/2006 due to scandals. They were also relegated to Serie B with 30 penalties. Yet they still managed to get promoted that season.

Catenaccio is Italian for “latch”. The term refers to a style of play in which the aim is to neutralise the opponent. With four defenders and an extra last man, the style of play is very defensive and not very attractive to watch for spectators.

Scudetto literally means shield and refers to the Italian shield with the tricolore (green-white-red). The reigning national champion may wear this on the shirt as long as they are champions.

Twenty teams play in the Primera Division each season. Of these, the last three each year are relegated to the Segunda Division A. A total of 65 teams have ever played in the Primera Division, of which nine clubs won the title.

Manchester United has the most Premier League titles. Thirteen in total. Not surprisingly, Louis van Gaal therefore called MU the “greatest club in the world” when he took office as coach there.

There are 20 teams playing in the Premier League. There were once 22. Of the 20 teams, three are relegated every season. In total, there are 47 teams that have ever played in the Premier League.
